Gran Torino

As someone said in a previous post, I am not sure that Walt is racist. This is just his way of talking like a man. I think he is a really conservative and proud person and this is why he did not get along with that many people. But if we can notice he does not even get along with his own family which is American. Is this still racism? The fact that he became close with the Hmong family next door does not prove he became unracist either. He found out he had more in common with them than with his own family. But would he be able to do the same with any other foreigner's family?

  1. I think older generations just don't think highly of people who do not seem as motivated as they are. Walt continued to use racial slurs even after it was clear he liked his neighbors, so I don't think he considered the comments offensive at all.

  2. I like the way you are looking at things. Its true he didn't get along with his own family which makes you think...does he really get along with anyone at all. Even though he got along with his neighbors in the end, he still had a part of him that would never let go of who he truly is; whether he is a racist man or not.
