On thing that stood out to me was the differences from generation to generation seen throughout the movie. Walt, being of the oldest generation shown in the movie, has habits that could be seen and were prominent of his time; for example, his do-it-yourself attitude about maintenance and upkeep as well as his hard-nosed demeanor. The most obvious attribute from his time being his racial opinions.
Next depicted in the generational divide would be Walt's sons. Their intentions are generally genuine and good-natured (sometimes misplaced), but a distinct difference is seen when comparing their attitudes toward technology and loyalties.
Lastly, I feel that Eastwood wanted to show a sense of entitlement in the youngest generation. I feel that the differences to Walt are most apparently depicted here.
